The Department of Physical Geography, Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht University is responsible for the activities linked to this webpage. Our coastal researchers would like to better understand and predict the dynamics of coastal landscapes. In doing so, they not only look at the natural dynamics, but also at the human influence. That is why they carry out field measurements and laboratory experiments. They also use and develop computer models.
We investigate sandy coasts, tidal barrier systems and estuaries (estuaries). We look at waves, tides, wind, flora and fauna, and how they influence each other. For an up-to-date overview and examples of research projects, click here.
