University of New South Wales

CoastSnap is an Australian initiative that resulted from a collaboration project between the University of New South Wales (Water Research Laboratory) and the state of New South Wales in 2017. Initially, two CoastSnap stations were installed along Sydney's northern beaches. The first station was placed on May 17, 2017 at Manly Beach. Shortly after, on May 23, 2017, the second station was installed in North Narrabeen.

The data from these two stations has been used to evaluate the CoastSnap technique and published in the scientific journal Coastal Engineering.

The algorithms developed for these first two CoastSnap stations have subsequently been made public. This has led to a rapid increase in the number of CoastSnap stations around the world. An overview can be found at www.coastsnap.com. Utrecht University installed the first CoastSnap station on the Dutch coast, on March 3, 2020 in Egmond aan Zee. Since then, Utrecht University has deployed several CoastSnap stations.
